bumGenius's "Genius Series" is a collection of cloth diapers with limited edition prints inspired by geniuses throughout history.  The "Patch" design is based on Edith Patch. When she was a child, Patch won a contest for an essay on monarch butterflies. Passionate about bugs and ecology, Patch tried to get a job in entomology, but was repeatedly rejected because she was a woman. Through persistence and dedication, she was later hired by Charles Woods of the University of Maine, where she earned her master's degree, later completing her Ph.D. at Cornell University. In 1930, Patch was elected the first woman president of the Entomological Society of America, a time when few women were in the field. Throughout her long, devoted career, she never lost focus of her love for science and the natural world, which now lands her a spot in our Hall of Genius.

Overview of the bumGenius Freetime Cloth Diaper:
  • Attached inserts mean one step cloth diapering--no stuffing required!
  • 3x3 snap down design adjusts the sizing to fit small, medium and large sizes (approximately 8-35+ pounds)
  • Soft, sueded inner fabric gently wicks moisture away from your baby's skin.
  • The elastic around the legs and in the back of the diaper is super stretchy, yet gentle, so it can prevent leaks without making your baby uncomfortable.
  • Outer cover is water proof to prevent leaks, yet soft enough to be comfy for your child.
  • Machine washable.
FAQ About bumGenius Freetime Cloth Diapers

What is an "all-in-one" cloth diaper? When a diaper is described as "all-in-one," it means that all pieces of the diaper are sewn together.  More specifically, the insert(s) (the thicker piece(s) of fabric that absorb liquid/moisture) are sewn to the diaper cover.  The bumGenius Freetime has two inserts that are "semi-attached," meaning that only one end of each insert is sewn to the diaper cover.Back to FAQ

What are the benefits of an all-in-one diaper? The two inserts not only dry faster, but can be folded for customized absorbency (i.e. you can place more fabric in the place that your child needs it.)  An all-in-one diaper can also save time. If you are using a pocket diaper, you have to pull the insert out of the pocket when it is dirty, and then stuff it back into the pocket after it has been cleaned.  An all-in-one diaper allows you to skip both of those steps because there is no separate insert. Just put the diaper on the baby, throw it in the wash, use the diaper again, etc. Back to FAQ

How does the sizing work? Freetime cloth diapers are "one-size," and fit most babies who weigh between 8 and 35 pounds. You can change the size of the diaper as your baby growing by adjusting the snaps.  There are two rows of snaps to ensure a snug, trim fit.Generous sizing accommodates larger babies, while durable snap closures help keep diapers on older babies. Back to FAQ

How do I change the size of the diaper? Adjust the diaper sizing by choosing the right snap setting on the front of the diaper. Your diaper arrives snapped down to the "small" setting, the bottom row of snaps.  To use the "medium" setting, unsnap the diaper and resnap on the second row of snaps.  To use the diaper on the "large" setting, fully unsnap the front of the diaper.

How do you wash cloth diapers?
  • Pre-wash cold to remove waste and fight stains.
  • Wash hot (100F/40C) with detergent to cleanse your diapers.
  • Follow with a second rinse.
  • Line-dry.
  • One per month, add 1/4 cup (or 60 mL) of bleach in the hot wash.
  • Do not use fabric softeners or laundry detergents with additives, such as enzymes, brighteners, whiteners, dyes, perfumes, essential oils.
Other Washing Tips:
  • Wash dirty diapers at least every other day.
  • If your diapers still stink, wash again.
  • Remove solid waste before storing in pail. (A bumGenius diaper sprayer is wonderful!)
  • Use only detergent and water. Do not use other additives like vinegar or baking soda.
  • As mentioned above, once per month add up to 1/4 cup bleach in the hot wash cycle to sanitize diapers and fight odors.
  • To remove stains, lay clean, wet diapers in the sun.
